Getting Started
Posted by Eric Glynwilliams on
Build A Set is a project that has helped me solve my own white card model building frustrations. I was tired of starting from scratch each time I wanted to work on a set design. The print, cut and paste system solved that problem. I got the theatre bug working backstage in high school but only really got going in the early 80's working with a variety of community theater groups. I've worked in all areas but my main focus has been stage management, set design and construction. Having been back stage, on the stage and up in the booth,...
FAQ

Q: What weight of card stock to use? A: I use 65 lb card stock, I've found the 110 lb only slightly more durable but harder to score. Q: Which type of glue? A: Multi-purpose white glue. Q: Glue applicator? A: Inexpensive (variety store) set of synthetic flat or angled paint brushes approximately 1⁄4 in or 3⁄8 in wide. The flat (sort of square) shape seems to spread the glue evenly. Q: Printer options for PDF file? A: To print 1/2" scale accurately select "actual size" from your printer options. When I print a page of basic flats/doors/windows I create an inventory...
Stratford Paper Model
Posted by Eric Glynwilliams on
In 2013 I designed a paper card model of the Festival Stage in Stratford Ontario Canada. The original design by Tanya Moiseiwitsch in 1953 has had a few changes and redesigns but still has it's original character. Inspired from the Elizabethan apron stage the thrust design consists of a protruding platform, balcony, trap doors and multiple acting area and entrances. The "Tanya" stage was a challenge to recreate as a paper model. It is available exclusively through The Stratford Festival gift store web site. 58 Component Parts 10 Full Colour Cards 25 x 33 cm (10" x 13") Base https://store.stratfordfestival.ca/collections/souvenirs/products/model-festival-stage-card?lshst=collection...
Stage Craft Posters
Posted by Eric Glynwilliams on
In 2012 I developed a series of five posters to present stage terms and help drama teachers better explain some of the history of theater from Greek to a modern theatre design. The most popular has been Stage Lighting. It covered common lighting instruments that are used and the concepts of a lighting plot and operation of a basic lighting board. It appeared with Stage Development as the inside flap covers of an excellent text book Drama Works published in 2013 by Emond Montgomery Publications limited. I hope you get a chance to check it out.
